Transgender Awareness Week/Month
Transgender Awareness Week is observed during the first two weeks of November and is a celebration of transgender and gender non-conforming people that leads up to Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR) where the community memorializes people who were victims of trans-phobic violence, particular victims of murder. Transgender Day of Remembrance is observed annually on November 20. The celebration is a way for advocates and advocacy groups to raise awareness and promote education about the community by organizing events and showcasing various achievements of transgender people.
Education is what this blog is all about. So, of course, I'm going to participate by putting up at least one post every day throughout the entire month of November. Over the next 30 days, I'll be posting pieces on specific transgender people, our ancient history, places of interest, representation in pop culture, our place in post-classical - contemporary history, myths, as well as segments of my own journey. On November 20, I will put up a post memorializing all the known murder victims of trans-phobic violence from the last year from all over the world.
I hope you enjoy everything I put up this month and I also hope you learn a few things while you're at it. Feel free to share these through any form of social media. Also, you can click the Merch link in the header to buy some t-shirts among other things. Or click the Donate link to donate to my initiative to start an official Transgender Historical Society and eventually open the Museum of Transgender History and Culture! Thanks so much for all of your support!
